It was pretty hard blogging about business happenings in the Furnishing industry when they mostly consisted of company mergers and acquisitions. And there were plenty. But as the stronger ones seem to be holding their own in anticipation of better times...........well let's hope the worst for now, is behind us. Most folks at last market were keeping an optimistic attitude. Well, most people!

Earth friendly products still seems to be the buzz while most companies clamor to figure out how their products fit in. New products in this category are slowly coming to market but very carefully. Nobody wants to produce expensive sustainable merchandise that must wait for demand. Originality certainly seems to be taking hold for those companies that want to venture into 'new waters'.

In the meantime, the current trend of "nature" related themes and soothing colors from our natural surrounding pervade the showrooms intensely. I am left with a more pertinent message after having left the market believing that we should all consider returning to our roots in some form or another.

Nonetheless, I am anticipating a brighter furniture market for this year ahead. I am also excited to explore the many new venues that will be showcasing for the very first time.

I hope you will be able to explore with me!...............................

From the Light of My Home to Yours,

Deb

The New Fabric of High Point

Textiles are making big waves @ High Point Market this spring of '08. Beautiful designs are being created on wonderful silks and sateens along with cottons and linens. Artistic expressions are making their way into our bed linens and curtains and pillows as well. Just as we have witnessed wonderful graphics on just about everything, from decorative accessories to furniture, so too is it being applied to sheets and pillow cases, duvets and shams. What a wonderful way to update a look! While this region of the country has focused more on traditional looks in the past, more contemporary and transitional patterns are debuting with quite a splash. For summer, tropical hues of tangerines and cocoas with highlights of aquas and yellows are freshening up our homes.

Many of these new looks go right a long with the new 'Loft look'. It definately seems to be targeted to our more younger 'hip' set. All along with our stride to be more 'eco' conscious. However, organic and sustainable products are still substantially costing more at production therfore costing the retail price to be higher. At a premium, are organic produced products with lots of artistic flair. I'm still on the look out for more affordable products to offer to mainstream customers.

Everyone who is anyone is also putting their brand out their through lisencing. Donald Trump has a new line of furnishings. Of course, Martha Stewart is represented in High Point. And check out Candice Olson is designing in style as well. But did you know that Paula Dean has a new line of rugs out in the market? Maybe for those improptu dinner soirees on the floor!

I'm loving it.

From the light of my home to yours-----------------

Stop to Shop @ DebSoChic.com

Echota

A Cherokee translation for a "town"; a "place of dwelling"; a "peaceful haven". I seem to favor the last meaning the best. And with consumers looking to come home from a hectic day's work to a place of comfort and ease the decorating focus of late has been the Master's Bedroom suite. And who wouldn't want a sanctuary in one's own home. I can help accomplish this.

No matter what your style of furnishings is, this can be achieved through careful attention to details. At October's High Point Market, plenty of vignettes were set up in all choices of fabrics and styles. I particularly am drawn to the new color palettes of blues and greens contrasted with the brown tones for creating that serene environment. For a little more spice, a room filled with browns and terra cottas provide a space rich with earthly delights. Big talk at this Market has been focused around 'sustainability' and how the furniture and design community can make big waves in changes for the consumer to follow. There are plenty of new resources to be found on this planet that beautiful creations are being born from. Crafters and designers are using all sorts of new materials for their creations. Appreciation for these objects of art can be brought into our home sanctuaries. I for one plan to very soon acquire some objects of art in my studio that I can offer to consumers for purchase. I will be looking for precious decor items that have an ethereal feel to them and connect with the right person that is drawn to each one.

I have been studying different modalities pertaining to 'etheric design' and am really excited about instituting many disciplines to my design approach, be it through Feng Shui, Aromatherapy, Air Purification, Colour Therapy, and Space Clearing. There are many beautiful vessels that can help transform your space and connect with you and the earth around us, while at the same time providing peace and comfort to your soul.

There is no better way to start the New Year! Many interior designers may use techniques and principles derived from the past to aid in achieving this also. I for one can advocate the positives to these approaches. By freeing up space in ones home, this frees up ones own mind to be receptive to newer activities and newer thought processes. Thus allowing more experiences to come into our lives so that we can live life to the fullest! As an Interior Decorator, this come naturally to me. I prefer and strive to live my life through form and function. I try to surround myself with beauty whether it be in nature or man-made objects. The artful inspires me. While perfection is never the mindset of my goals, I do prefer a more systematic approach to decorating. I do understand the difficulties persons may stumble on when trying to attain a certain “look and feel” to their surroundings. Remember the motto always that “less is more”.

From the light of my home to the light of yours...

Stop to Shop @ DebSoChic.com
